Boaters on the Rappahannock looking for a unique place to dock and dine can set a course for Yankee Point Marina. Nestled in the quiet waters of Myer’s Creek off the Corrotoman River, the marina offers two different venues, the Poolside Café and Windows on the Water, along with ample free dockage while you eat, making it a perfect lunch stop during a day of tubing or a great dinner cruise destination.

The “come as you are” casual atmosphere of the Poolside Café is popular with locals.  Afternoon lunch crowds always include at least one family in swimsuits enjoying a meal and a quick dip in the marina’s saltwater pool. The Café serves sandwiches, salads, beer, and wine on the outdoor patio, and a kid’s menu is available. My personal favorite is the burger—lean, juicy and cooked precisely as requested.  The Café also offers a delicious, crunchy soft crab sandwich in season which is a winner.

If you are looking for dinner with a view, the marina’s other restaurant, Windows on the Water, delivers. The restaurant offers intimate seating along a wall of windows overlooking the docks at Yankee Point. It includes a full bar, with specialty drinks with a nautical theme such as the Pirates Skull (Kahlua, bourbon, and Bailey’s over ice). The wine list is small but affordable, with most bottles under $25.00.  The menu includes pasta, steak, and seafood entrees and homemade brownies and pies for dessert. The delicious hot crab dip appetizer and the brie with caramelized bourbon sauce can serve two. On the lighter side, a house or Caesar salad can be topped with grilled chicken, a crab cake, or paired with the cheese quesadilla. On the richer side, try seafood Alfredo or mussels with linguini. Always check the specials board—the day’s steaks and more imaginative entrees are found there. The wait staff is warm, friendly, and will gladly modify menu items for gluten-free and vegetarian diners.

The restaurant commonly offers live music and themed buffets, and hours vary with the season, so check the website or call before setting sail. Busy nights can cause longer wait times, but if you relax and enjoy the view, you won’t be disappointed.
