Warm breezes greeted us as we ventured into the Sailfish Marina Restaurant in Palm Beach Shores. Arriving with other late-lunchers and early-bird diners, we found a busy scene both inside, where open floor-to-ceiling windows carried in sea air, and outside, where dock chairs and large umbrellas front the water.

We were seated at the back bar; the bartender was attentive, especially considering how many patrons she was already serving. I chose a peach cosmo and my date chose a mojito. Both were delicious, but the mojito stole the show — I was tempted to order one for myself.

sailfish 2Perusing the vast menu, we chose the palate-pleasing mozzarella and tomato salad with roasted peppers, watercress, and balsamic dressing. Other appetizers include chowders, wings, calamari, dolphin fingers, and conch fritters. As we hungrily scarfed down our appetizer, we reviewed a wide variety of offerings including a fresh catch of the day, fried oysters, burgers, sandwiches, and fish and chips. Side dishes include seasoned fries, garlic mashed potatoes, apple cabbage cole slaw, or Caribbean vegetables.

I selected the dolphin Ruben and my companion chose the island crab wrap. My sandwich contained flawlessly seared dolphin combined with zesty Thousand Island dressing and coleslaw on crispy rye bread. The spinach-flavored wrap, filled with lump crab, avocado, lettuce, onion, and tomato, and spread with mustard aioli, was equally delicious. Sailfish offers options for vegetarians such as a veggie burger, spinach and watercress salad, and penne gorgonzola.

Dinner entrées included grilled swordfish, pistachio crusted sea scallops, sautéed yellowtail, pork chop Oscar, Florida spiny lobster, and a 10-ounce filet mignon.

The restaurant is open seven days a week from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, so you can begin your boating day dining here as well. Breakfast choices include eggs, omelets, waffles, pancakes, and cereals, or go for a filling breakfast sandwich before heading out on the water.

Sailfish is part of a marina and resort; there are three docks that can accommodate 94 vessels from 25 to 110 feet. Call in advance for reservations, rates, and additional information.
