Rumba Rum Bar

If you’re looking for a relaxed, casual atmosphere with the appeal of a Caribbean island and great food, pilot your boat through the Shinnecock Bay and up to the dock at Rumba Rum Bar. Throw a cover-up over your beach or boating wear, slip on a pair of flip-flops, and you’ll fit in nicely here.

rumba 1As you approach, you’ll see Adirondack chairs lining the waterside, filled with patrons enjoying a beverage while they watch boats arriving. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll see other restaurant patrons snapping pictures of themselves in front of the colorfully decorated, Caribbean-inspired bus that sits in front of the restaurant.

The outside deck that overlooks the bay offers seating choices of picnic tables and round tables covered with umbrellas, and counters resembling surfboards to stand alongside and gaze at your surroundings. There is additional seating inside and a large bar.

The restaurant’s vibe and décor are fun, but it’s the food that keeps me coming back to Rumba. Everything here is fresh and flavorful and has a unique twist. Whether you are looking for a full meal or small bites, there is plenty on the menu to satisfy. Try the grilled artichokes to start or order one of the signature salads such as the sunset crab cake salad. It’s made with fresh lump crab served atop a bed of greens and garnished with avocado, mango, and papaya.

After a day of boating or water sports, you may be looking for a more substantial meal. The Dominican ribs will satisfy a larger appetite, or order the soy and sugar cane salmon with coconut risotto — a truly unique dish. Rumba’s tacos bring me back time and time again, especially the smothered pulled pork rib taco topped with fried onions and cilantro. They are terrific! However, you won’t go wrong if you opt for the jerk chicken, fish, or vegetarian tacos. Make it a point to go on Taco Thursday and you can try three for a very reasonable price.

Rumba Rum Bar has specialty drinks worth checking out, such as mojitos, Key lime martinis, and passion fruit piña coladas. Check the restaurant’s website for specials on drinks and appetizers.
