Poem: A SONNET TO OUR SOLDIERS

July 1, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

HEATHER-RIMMED CLOUDS

PRE-DAWN MIRAGES

IN SOFT PEACH AND ANISE

AS OUR NATION AWAKES

THE PROMISE OF WEATHER

BEFITTING THIS DAY

MUSIC LIKE WIND CHIMES PLAY LIKE A BAND

FLAGS UNFURL ACROSS OUR BEAUTIFUL LAND

MEMORIES COME IN

LIKE THE TIDE AND THE SEA

PICNICS AND RAFT UPS

FAMILY IN SCENES

ONE MEMORY SWELLS

TIMELESS TUNNELS REMAIN

AS WE PRAY FOR OUR SOLDIERS

IN PORTS WITH STRANGE NAMES

LOVE FOR OUR COUNTRY

A CORE TO THEIR BEING

OUR PRAYERS FOR A COMPASS

BEARING HOME PORT WITH SPEED

THUNDER ERUPTS

ACROSS EVERY STATE

BLUE ANGELS AND OTHERS

BRILLIANT DISPLAYS

GREAT MEANING

FOR OUR SOLDIERS, NOT NEAR

OUR NATION WILL NOT QUAVER,

OR COWER, OR RUN IN FEAR

TO ALL PORTS OF CALL

AND ALL SHIPS AT SEA

WE STAND READY AND PROUD

LAND OF THE FREE.
