There are few restaurants that everyone in my family always agrees on. But for as long as I can remember, Mike’s Crab House has been a favorite.

Nestled on the banks of the South River, Mike’s Crab House is a go-to for fresh seafood no matter the season or time of day. There is no shortage of waterfront views, regardless of whether you sit inside or out on the dock. Mike’s is approximately 10 minutes from downtown Annapolis and provides free boat docking for all patrons.

Established in 1958, Mike’s is the perfect spot for celebrations, first dates, summer evenings out, or a casual dinner with family. As a new mother, I especially love Mike’s these days for its spacious layout that creates a perfect family-friendly atmosphere.

If you crave Maryland blue crab, then the menu will entice you with appetizers like crab balls, crab quesadillas, cream of crab soup, or my personal favorite, homemade crab dip. On our most recent visit my husband and I started with the crab dip which is served with delicious warm slices of baguette. Careful though, as it’s easy to fill up on the dip before dinner!

Though I’m a fan of Mike’s famous steamed crabs and soft-shell crab sandwich — available sautéed or fried — I opted for a basket of fried oysters. They were plump and fried just enough to complement the soft texture of the oysters with a light, crispy coating.

Mike’s offers everything seafood-related with entrées like stuffed shrimp, seafood imperial, and broiled rockfish. For those on a gluten-free diet, look for seafood offerings that are available sautéed or broiled, and opt for the side salad or baked potato instead of fries.

If you’re vegan, dinner and lunch choices may be a little trickier, but you can never go wrong with one of Mike’s delicious salads or the all-you-can-eat salad bar. The restaurant also offers vegetarian pizza.

Mike’s is a pleasant spot for boaters. The establishment also offers packaged goods, a deli, and a range of boating necessities like sunscreen and bait.
