Letters To The Editor

Dear Lita & Barry,

At its Annual Meeting held on February 5, 2011 at the Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL, the United States Power Squadrons® awarded Boating Times Long Island and you both with the USPS Ship’s Bell Award!

This presentation was made in recognition of your magazine’s significant efforts to raise readers’ awareness of the importance of boating safety and the need for continuing boating-related education for recreational boaters. Specifically, by your publication of articles describing situations that can occur and the role played by the USPS Squadrons on Long Island to make the public more competent, and therefore safer boaters, Boating Times Long Island has highlighted many aspects of boating that we all take for granted. Not all of the articles are safety-related; some of them merely discuss the pure joy of piloting boats on our waterways. Additionally, the publication of these articles (many written by USPS members on Long Island), has helped the public become more familiar with the USPS “brand” and our mission of Community Service, Continuing Education and Fraternalism.

Since you were unfortunately not able to attend the annual meeting, it was my honor to accept the Ship’s Bell Award on your behalf.

Peter TenBrink

Lita,

Thanks for a great piece on two great Long Island boat clubs [March issue]. With a cheerleader like you, and your team at the magazine as well, we will all thrive better in this hostile economic climate.

Thanks again.

Hi Lita,

Just saw the March Issue on your website. Looks great!

I am sending a pet picture of “Luna & Presley” from Sally and Antoine Basta, members of the Sewanhaka Squadron, to include in your magazine.

I’m also including my Black Lab girl, “Kelsey.”

Thanks,

Fred Deppert

Editor’s note: We’ll include some more of these photogenic pups in a summer issue!
