Letter From the Editor

September 1, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

Are you someone who thinks of September as a month of beginnings? I understand why many measure the year by the start of school, the arrival of autumn, or by the celebration of Rosh Hashanah, but I’m definitely not one of those people.  I’m the type who sees the year drawing to a close as the days grow shorter, the leaves fall from the trees, and formerly-busy waterways become less crowded.

Actually, boating season won’t fade away anytime soon if Mother Nature cooperates. There may be more of a breeze and a snap to the air when the sun goes down, but a warm September sun is all that’s necessary for me to completely ignore the countdown calendar that clearly indicates that my boating days are numbered.

As I’m adopting a blissfully oblivious manner and pretending that summer is indeed endless, it’s a pleasure to share eventful and just-plain-fun Day Trippers this month. We’re also featuring reviews of two restaurants that represent the summertime fun of dining alongside bustling marinas.

Additionally, we have stories to make you cleaner and safer boaters, as well as ones that may disgust you (seriously, where do the people in “What the What?” boat so that I may avoid them?). We also have a story that will require tissues — the story of two women planning a row across the Atlantic to honor the memory of a fellow rower. I know I’ll be following their progress this winter.

Ahhh! I wrote “winter,” and I don’t even want to acknowledge autumn. So let’s all go boating, shall we?
