Letter From The Editor

may 2014 coverI love May! Sometime this month, it dawns on me that the threat of snow is finally, truly gone, and my delicious expectations for summer can grow unchecked.

In May, everything seems possible. The days may all be warm, and they will certainly continue growing long. Clothes become skimpier, toes peek out of sandals, and the unmistakable smell of sunscreen intermingles with the scent of flowers in the best possible way.

During May, spring still has weeks to go, and summer seems limitless. It’s when we anticipate plenty of fun times on the water with family and friends. Yes, I know what happens when we make plans, but plumbing leaks, thunderstorms, baby showers, ear infections, family reunions, and engine issues are not part of my spring and summer scheme. I’m dreaming of days spent boating to new and familiar places, of friends relaxing while kids squeal with delight, of stunning sunsets (and occasional sunrises), of nights lazing on the deck while fireworks fill the sky, of kicking off my shoes and leaving behind my stresses, and — most importantly — I’m picturing a family that’s smiling from ear to ear throughout the boating season.

We celebrate mothers, graduates, and other happy times in the month of May. However, after singing the praises of those we love, May is a marvelous month to fine-tune the songs we’ll soon be singing on the water.
