Le Tub Saloon

The Le Tub Saloon 1Before 2006, Le Tub Saloon was a hole-in-the-wall favorite among locals. Things changed in February of that year when Alan Richman of GQ magazine named their 13-ounce sirloin burger the best in the nation. And the rest is burger history.

Located off A1A on the Intracoastal Waterway in Hollywood, the restaurant has a 150-foot dock with a draft of five feet at low tide. Transient space is available on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge.

The owners transformed the waterfront shack from a Sunoco gas station into a restaurant in 1975. The building is surrounded by lush, overgrown greenery and decorated with colorful toilets and tubs, nautical knickknacks, and faded boogie boards. Outdoor seating offers great views of the water and a good spot for birdwatching. Due to a small kitchen, there is often a long wait on nights and weekends. If you’re feeling impatient, make sure to visit on a weekday afternoon between lunch and dinner.

The no-frills menu features fresh seafood, pork, ribs, strip steak, and a handful of signature salads. Le Tub’s claim to fame is the 13-ounce ground-top sirloin burger, best when ordered at a medium temperature. The burger is served on a bun with thick-cut onions, tomato, lettuce, and your choice of cheese. Plump and juicy, it doesn’t need any condiments but you will need extra napkins — and perhaps a larger jaw.

Seafood options include beer-steamed shrimp, crab legs, and littleneck clams served with lemon and butter. Le Tub’s menu also includes barbecued pork served on a bun or a full rack of barbecued ribs. Vegetarians and vegans might enjoy freshly made salsa and tortilla chips to start followed by a Greek or garden salad. Gluten-free options include a 13-ounce Salisbury burger served with no bun and a salad instead of fries.

The Le Tub Saloon 2Save some room for the homemade key lime pie. Served with a heavy dollop of whipped cream, the dessert is perfectly tart and offers a nice palate cleanser.

Le Tub Saloon is open from 11:00 am to 1:00 am on Monday through Friday and noon to 2:00 am on Saturday and Sunday.
