Hurricane Grill & Wings

When you think of waterside restaurants a sports bar may not be the first place that comes to mind, but if it’s Hurricane Grill & Wings on the Neguntatogue Creek, think again. This eatery combines the best of a classic sports bar with a casual dock and dine restaurant.

Hurricane GrillWhen the weather is fine (or there’s no sporting event of interest) sit outside on the patio, with its wonderful view of the water. If you elect to eat inside you’ll be surrounded by top-notch sports coverage from multiple televisions. Wherever you sit, you’ll be ready to begin your experience with starters such as loaded nachos, Caesar salad, chili, fried pickles, or shrimp, and quench your thirst with an extensive choice of tropical drinks, cocktails, beer, wine, or non-alcoholic cocktails or sodas.

If you’re a big chicken wings fan, you’ll soon learn that Hurricane Grill & Wings takes their wings seriously. They offer four different sizes from snack to large, doused in more than 35 sauces, rubs, or glazes (the menu lists a helpful heat index next to each choice, ranging from the mild “Calm Seas” to the self-explanatory “Evacuation Route”).

And if wings aren’t your thing, the restaurant offers seafood dishes including grilled mahi, salmon, and fish and chips, as well as steaks, burgers, sandwiches, tacos, and quesadillas. Basically, they can cover any craving you might be having. I enjoyed the veggie burger with the Parmesan garlic fries (I definitely recommend getting these) and my dining companion liked the hamburger. Both of us were very happy with our meals and our server was courteous and helpful.

Along with the veggie burger, vegetarians can choose from the house side salad as well as some side dishes; there is also a gluten-sensitive menu.

If you still have room (or the game is still going on) try the delicious sea salt caramel cheesecake or the Key lime pie.

Hurricane Grill & Wings is open seven days a week beginning at 11:00 am; be sure to call ahead before you come by boat to make sure there is space available at one of the restaurant’s slips. Once you arrive, you’ll score points with your passengers and crew as you all savor the fun atmosphere, friendly staff, tasty food, and plenty of sports action!
