Fort-SumterFort Sumter is considered where the Civil War began.  The Fort Sumter National Monument sits on the mouth of the Charleston Harbor, making it a perfect place to take your boat for a day trip and learn about the start of America’s deadliest war.

According to the National Park Service, private boaters are encouraged to anchor their boats on the western side of Fort Sumter, between the fort and James Island.

After you have tied up the boat, walk around the grounds of the park.  According to park officials, an hour is a sufficient amount of time to explore the grounds.  After that, they highly recommend their boat tours of the park.  The boat tour includes a narrated tale of the battle and how it began and helped shape the deadly Civil War.

Exploring and learning about Fort Sumter is a great way to spend a day on and off the boat.
