Doc’s Marina Grill

Docs Marina GrillEagle Harbor is 30 minutes west of Seattle’s downtown by boat, on the shores of Bainbridge Island. Moor your boat offshore or use the transient space at the city dock, which is just west of the ferry landing, and then take a five-minute stroll on the Waterfront Loop Trail located along historic sites, beautiful sculptures and majestic, native trees. Your pleasant trip will end when you reach Doc’s Marina Grill.

Nestled in the former working Winslow Wharf, this no-frills eatery serving Northwestern fair and libations with a focus on seafood is a treat any time of the year. You can dine by the water in all seasons in its covered (and heated) patio.

Local steamed manila clams and Penn Cove mussels in garlic wine broth with butter and focaccia make for an awesome appetizer. So do the peel and eat shrimp by the pound or half-pound or the Asian inspired ahi tuna tacos.

While the menu has a seafood focus (northwest cioppino, grilled northwest salmon, pan-fired rockfish), you can find everything from burgers, such as the Big Doc burger on a pretzel bun or the El Portal with smoked habanero blue cheese sauce and double hickory smoked bacon, to an entire vegetarian section (the quinoa sauté is a great option, as is the blue cheese portobello focaccia). Many items are gluten-free and noted as such on the menu.

We ordered the BBQ pork sandwich with crunchy coleslaw — the tangy, melt in your mouth meat, perfectly balanced by the cole slaw, had us licking our fingers. One of the specials we had to order was the blackened rockfish mac and cheese. It was delicious!

Doc’s features 10 beers on tap, has an excellent cider and wine selection, and a martini bar that is stocked with top-shelf options.

The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner and breakfast on the weekends. Reservations are highly recommended and seating for large parties is available.
