Finding places to anchor for a day can be quite the topic of conversation between boaters. To have a fun day out on the water, head on over to Cobham Bay just off the James River.

As a place where most locals go to, the fun of dropping an anchor and taking the dinghy around or stopping by the park can be a relaxing day for all. With Chippokes Plantation State Park right at the location, you can hop off your boat and explore! See beautiful sights of the oldest farmed plantation in the country, which has been a working farm since 1619. Take a stroll through the gardens and see equipment farmers had used in the past. There is also the option to go hiking (the park has 12 miles of trails) or bike riding, or take a break to eat lunch at the picnic areas. Hours of operation are Dawn to Dusk.

Cobham Bay is South of Williamsburg, directly across the river from Jamestown Island. With low water depths of 5-6 feet and being a well-protected anchorage you will not want to miss out on this spot to take your boat. The bay is mostly fresh water, so jump right in as it is nettle-free!
