One of its many charms is that Chesapeake Bay has no shortage of places to drop anchor and spend a day. This abundance means boaters have new places to explore — have you visited Carter Creek, near Irvington, Virginia yet?

carter creek 2Carter Creek and the town of Irvington are located on Virginia’s northern neck.  There are public marinas along the creek that allow you to dock for the day for a small fee.  These marinas are close to the center of town.

The Tides Inn Marina is also close to the center of town. Added perks here include access to the beachside pool, bicycles, and tennis court.

There are museums galore in Irvington, with The Steamboat Era Museum is considered the cultural primary attraction. After the museum, check out one (or more) of the town’s vineyards is a great way to spend some time.  There are also plenty of unique shopping options.

Once you have shopped, explored, and tasted some wine (not you, skipper), try the local fare. What better place to do that than at The Local?  For something a bit elegant the Tides Inn has delicious fare.

This is a great town to explore for a day trip and I think it is a place you will want to come back to more than once!
