heecjfgdIf you are looking for a relaxed day trip for your family and friends, head on over by your boat to Canalfront Park Marina.

The park features a 19-boat slip marina and transient space you can reserve; be sure to call 302-644-1869.

As you walk through the park, you will see beautiful plants and flowers, and a clear view of the canal for watching boats coming in and leaving. Adults can hang out in the Gazebo while the kids play on the basketball courts or have a family tennis match!

Children age five and under are welcome to visit the playground and enjoy the slides, swings, bounce seats and tunnels.

Just a few steps past the courts is the national historic landmark that you will not want to miss.  It is one of seventeen lightships remaining that were built between the years 1820 and 1952. The OVERFALLS is a continuing restoration project to save and preserve it. The ship was designed to light up and aid those who were navigating at night. The light is an electric lantern located 57 feet above water and it would flash every three seconds allowing those as far as 12 miles away to see  if the weather was clear. It also used its diaphone fog horn to warn mariners in foggy weather and it would sound off every 30 seconds and could be heard as far as five miles out. Tours are available Thursday to Monday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Adult admission costs $5.00 and children 14 and under are free.

If you are still looking for something to do, cast a line or try to catch some crabs. Bring towels and/or blankets to hangout on the lawn. Check their website for special events occurring throughout the year.

Pets are welcomed! Take your four-legged passenger of the boat and go for a long walk around the park. But be sure to be kind and pick up after your pets.
