Atlantique chart (1)This part of Fire Island, formally known as Atlantique Beach to distinguish it from the residential neighborhood, has a decidedly relaxed atmosphere and a family focus. Actually, it’s relaxed once you get one of around 150 slips at the public marina, which are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis — slips are restricted to Islip town residents displaying a current decal Thursdays through Sundays. The marina season begins Memorial Day and runs through Labor Day, with weekend stays for residents through Columbus Day.

Located approximately two-and-a-half miles east of the Fire Island Lighthouse, there are basketball courts, a children’s playground, barbeques, and a snack bar. Lifeguards are on duty in-season on both the ocean and bay sides, as Fire Island is quite narrow here.

Shore power and fresh water are available dockside, and the marina provides a pumpout station. Showers and restrooms are available.

More information: The Atlantique dockmaster monitors VHF channel 9 and may be reached at 631-583-8610. Visit for fees and accessibility.
