Area 31 Restaurant

area 31 1Area 31 Restaurant is on the 16th floor of the EPIC Hotel in Downtown Miami. Perched above Biscayne Bay, the restaurant has panoramic views of the city. While the vista is breathtaking, the food is what draws a crowd.

The EPIC Hotel has a private dock and offers slips for restaurant guests. My friend and I decided on Area 31 Restaurant for her belated birthday celebration. I sipped a refreshing gin gimlet made with lime, cucumber water, basil, and local honey as we perused the menu. For an appetizer, we decided on crispy yucca fries with a mint chimichurri sauce. We also shared an avocado salad made with peppery greens, sweet potato, and feta cheese. A hint of cinnamon paired well with the salty feta. Jumbo lump crab cakes with avocado mousse and seared diver scallops were among other options for starters.

The seafood-based menu included a whole fried hogfish, swordfish, and snapper with black bean sauce. Steak and poultry dishes included a ribeye with elderflower hollandaise sauce, and a baby chicken with braised vegetables. Vegetarians might enjoy grilled flatbread, wild mushrooms with lemon and thyme, or quinoa with kale and sweet corn.

Desserts are offered in bite-sized samples. It’s a great way to try a few different items. My friend and I chose a tiny cup of delicate coconut-mango panna cotta, a creamy cheesecake topped with strawberry sauce, and Key lime pie. Our friendly server didn’t bring the bill until we asked, which gave us time to relax, digest, and enjoy the scenery.

Area 31 Restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch daily from 7:00 am – 3:00 pm. Dinner is available from 6:00 – 10:00 pm on Sunday through Thursday, and 6:00 – 11:00 pm on Friday and Saturday. For docking information or reservations, contact the EPIC Marina at 305-400-7489.
